Geographic Focus
We focus on protecting endangered ecosystems in Canada, which tend to be in the warmer, more biologically productive lands found in the south. By no coincidence, most people and industry also reside in these areas, making them highly contested landscapes.
Canada is home to some of the most amazing and at-risk ecosystems: from semi-arid grasslands and old-growth temperate rainforests, to mixed deciduous forests and southern boreal forests. These are just a few examples of the ecosystems that the Nature-Based Solutions Foundation prioritizes.

Old-growth solutions initiative
In partnership with the Endangered Ecosystems Alliance and Ancient Forest Alliance, we are undertaking the “Old-Growth Solutions Initiative“, a program to safeguard endangered old-growth forests in British Columbia by co-creating new legislated protected areas, with an emphasis on Indigenous Protected & Conserved Areas (IPCAs). To do this, we strategically unlock impactful financing opportunities while working directly with diverse First Nation communities and other key partners who play a central role in protecting these sublime and imperilled ecosystems.
